Islands of Lake Titikaka

Picked up by Johnny our guide and off to the the floating islands of Uros on Lake Titikaka. We learnt how they built the islands and how they lived. They built watch towers and boats so we got to climb up to look down on the islands. We also got to have a ride on one of their brilliantly built boats. We then lost all of our photos (due to an untimely formatting disaster) but managed to grab some on the way home the following day as we ‘flew’ past them. It was then off to Amantani island.

We met our host family who we stayed with for Lunch, Dinner and breakfast. Clara seemed to run the house, we met her 2 daughters and gorgeous granddaughter. They don’t speak Spanish or English (only Quechuan) but we were lucky to have our guide (who is from the island) translate for us. In the evening after a massive climb to watch the sunset and a big dinner we were dressed up in their traditional clothes for a fiesta they have most nights for tourists.

  1. Oh dear hope there wasn't too much angst and emotive energy wasted on the photo loss.
