Bikes and Bumps

The following day we drove through the Colca Canyon towards Condor cross. Saul enjoys walking and being away from the hoards (thank goodness) so we stopped about 30 minutes walk away from the main area where all of the tour groups stop to view. We had our own private viewing and we were not waiting long before we saw our first Condor flying just below us!

Our bikes needed a bit of maintenance so we drove to Cabanaconde, ordered lunch, Saul and Carlos fixed the bikes then it was off again to picnic at another high point with another fantastic view. We rode down a very corrugated road and just as our bottoms and hands were numbing and just before the end of this ride mum stacked it in a river gully on the road. Don't worry though after we stopped in the next town to get ice she is fine (just a couple of scratches and Dad has even managed to fix her glasses).

It was then a short drive on to the last ride down towards the coast for about 2 hours (Mum was our official photographer).

Saul and Carlos looked after us...after getting to Arequipa they waited for us to grab our bags and took us to the bus station for a luxury ride to Nazca.

  2. Yes, thank goodness I didn't outdo Helen. we were miles away from anywhere on a downhill rough corrugated dirt road. I landed on my face so now have a bruiser of a black eye.
